You may love your significant other or be head over heels, but that doesn't mean your parents feel the same way. They may take one look at that person's appearance and instantly dislike him or her. Then again maybe they know something about your new partner that disturbs them. No matter the situation, you can still bring home someone your parents hate.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Talk to your significant other ahead of time and let him/her know how your parents feel. This gives them a little time to prepare for the meeting.

  2. Step 2

Be upfront with your parents about your new partner and especially anything they might not like. Your parents may just need a little time to adjust to the situation.

  3. Step 3

Go out of your way to point out the great things about your partner such as volunteer work, grades in school or even their job. If your parents hear more about the good and less about the bad, they might just waver on their opinion.

  4. Step 4

Find things that your parents and significant other have in common. Something as simple as a mutual love of golfing can smooth over any ruffled feathers.

  5. Step 5

Make the introductions in a public forum where everyone will be on their best behavior. Going to a football game or meeting for dinner will give everyone involved the chance to meet in a neutral environment.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ask your significant other to tone down their behavior or appearance during the first meeting. You might be proud of their 17 piercings or extreme love of heavy metal, but your parents probably won't feel the same way.
  • Skip the alcoholic drinks! If your guy or gal needs 6 beers just to sit through dinner with your parents, then you have a more serious problem than you think.
