How to Make a Drip Irrigator From a Plastic Bottle

This is a suggestion from one of our special eHow Contributors. It is yet another way to put plastic bottle to use instead of throwing them out.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Clean bottle

  2. Step 2

    Using 6 penny nail, poke small hole in bottom corner of bottle.

  3. Step 3

    Fill with water.

  4. Step 4

    Place next to plant.

  5. Step 5

    Repeat daily.

  6. Step 6

    I have used this method on tomatoes for past three years, works great

on 8/6/2006 Plastic cat litter pails work well for this sort of irrigation and will hold larger amounts of water if desired. Helps with recycling problem to use them this way and we also find the pails useful to have around to cover mole traps or such that we want to make sure no outdoor cat or animal will accidentally injure itself by touching.

As side notes, I'll mention this type of watering seems useful during times of the day when watering is otherwise inadvisable, I don't recommend any schedule rather than "as appropriate" and wish to remind people with whole house water conditioners to turn the bypass valve when watering garden or using large amounts of water for outdoor purposes.
