Getting ready to go to college? Got a teen who is preparing for college? Follow this guide to have a better chance of getting into the college of your dreams.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First you will have to accept that you are going to have to work hard! Pay attention in class, study hard, and do your homework. If you are struggling with a particular class then ask the teacher if there is a time you can meet after school for additional help or if your teacher can recommend a good tutor. All these things will help ensure getting into your dream college.

  2. Step 2

Get involved in school activities. SGA, sports and clubs are all great experiences and look great on a college application. Another great perk with sports is that you are successful you have an opportunity to get and athletics scholarship.

  3. Step 3

Get involved in activities outside of school. Volunteer, do community service, become an intern at a local business. These are great ways to gain real world experience and all look great on a college application. Often by doing an internship at a business or company you can line up a job for yourself once you graduate college. Some companies will even pay for part of your education if you agree to work there for a set amount of time after earning your degree.

  4. Step 4

Write a creative, original, and convincing college essay. You really want your writing to help you stand out from the crowd. Often times if you are equally matched in academics and activities with another applicant, the creativity of your essay can give you the edge.

  5. Step 5

If you are rejected from a particular college then be persistent. Call and schedule a meeting with someone who deals with admissions. Meet with them and express to them how much you want to attend their school and ask what you can do to help change their mind.
