How to Clean a Turkey

Turkey season is coming. Careful prepartion of the turkey will help ensure a safe dinner for your guests and family.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • defrosted or fresh turkey
  • cold water
  • paper towels
  • anti-bacterial soap and hot water
  1. Step 1

    Remove the defrosted turkey from the packaging.

  2. Step 2

    Remove the neck and giblets from the body cavity. If they are going to be used, wash with cold wate rand pat dry with paper towels.

  3. Step 3

    Wash the turkey, inside and outside, with cold water. Pat dry with paper towels.

  4. Step 4

    Do not allow raw turkey, giblets or turkey juices to come in contact with other food items.

  5. Step 5

    Thoroughly wash your hands after handling the raw turkey and before touching other food, cooking utensils or kitchen surfaces.

  6. Step 6

    Thoroughly wash all cutting boards, kitchen counters and cooking utensils after cleaning the turkey.
