Entertaining children is an important skill for anyone to have, whether childcare is your job or your worst nightmare. Since they make up a large percent of the world's population, you can't always avoid them. Here are a few ideas for keeping a small child happy.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

PLAY ALONG. Lots of kids like to play make believe. When they do, you, them, and everything is what they say it is. Don't try to argue, because they won't listen to reason. Remember, the physical laws of this world may not apply to a child's play world. Also remember to exaggerate your role for extra entertainment value, and don't feel dumb because for the child it is not dumb at all.

  2. Step 2

TOSS THEM AROUND. If you are physically able, roughhouse a bit. Carry them in an interesting way, swing them around, or, if they're small enough, you may be able to make them "fly". Just make sure the child is okay with it first.

  3. Step 3

PLAN A SURPRISE. Many children like to surprise people, especially their parents. Do something to surprise a parent who is not present. I mostly do crafts, but it could be cooking, decorating or even housework, depending on the child.

  4. Step 4

BAKE COOKIES. I suggest frosted sugar cookies, but you and the kid you're taking care of can make anything the child can eat and likes to eat. It doesn't have to be cookies, or even a dessert! It could be spaghetti for all I care.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't suggest a project until you are sure you have the materials to do it. It's a bad idea to disappoint little kids.
  • Big projects are unnecessary if the child is happily doing something more simple and easy to clean up.
  • If you are dead you are on the floor, eyes closed, sometimes with your tongue lolling out.
  • Never swing someone else's kid by his arms, legs or head. It would be completely your fault if he was injured while you were doing that.
