Use standard letter format. Keep your notice to two paragraphs. Your first paragraph should state briefly that you are resigning from the position and the date you will be leaving. Only if your reason for leaving is a positive one (pregnancy, relocation, etc.) should you include the reason why. If you are leaving the company due to distaste in it, it's best to keep that out.

Your second paragraph should simply entail your stating appreciation for having the opportunity to work for the company and if true, reiterate to them you've enjoyed doing so. Also, wishing them future success with their company is always a respectful thing to include.

If you have a close and good relationship with your supervisor, it may be good to set them aside and inform them verbally of your intent to resign. Give them the letter as a formality and for records purposes only.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Be sure to provide a carbon copy of your letter to any applicable supervisors.
