Create a Custom Book Bag

Though they’re typically known as ‘book bags’ these bags can also be used as grocery bags, carry ons during a flight, or as snack holders for your child’s next soccer practice.

With so many different uses for book bags, it’s nice to have your book bag personalized. Using a few simple tools, you can have a bag that stands out from the rest.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a bag. While a lot of grocery stores are now selling book bags for a dollar, they often have the logo or name of the store printed on them. While that’s okay, we recommend getting a book bag made out of denim or a thicker canvas material from Wal-Mart or a local craft store.

  2. Step 2

Find the designs. Find some iron on designs that you’d like to have on your book bag: from letters to crosses to roses, there is an iron on design for just about anything these days. After you’ve selected a few iron on designs you like, head on home to start step 3.

  3. Step 3

Setting the scene. After setting up your ironing board and your iron, place your designs on your book bag while the iron is heating up. Find out where you like them and how far apart from each other they need to be. If you’re using letters, make sure that you have enough to spell out the words you need! Most of the time, packs of iron on letters will have three sets of one letter but only one set of another. The last thing you want is to get halfway through a word and not have enough letters to finish it.

  4. Step 4

Ready, set, iron. After you’ve figured out where you want all of your iron on designs, begin to iron on your designs by following the directions on the design’s packaging. Iron on all of your designs until you’re satisfied with the look or your book bag.

  5. Step 5

Let it cool. While it’s tempting to use your book bag right away, let it cool for a full 24 hours before using it.

  6. Step 6

Show it off. After your book bag has cooled, take it for a spin! Show off your hard work and tell your friends how they can make one of their own.
