1
Check with your local hospital's breastfeeding or education department. Hospitals hire IBCLC's to work with new families, so they are usually found either in labor and delivery or the postpartum section. You may be able to make an appointment with them or have one of the independent consultants come to your home.

2
Call your local La Leche League group. Ask them to refer you to an IBCLC consultant. You can usually find the number through a local hospital or obstetrician clinic.

Ask your childbirth educator or doula. It is very common that childbirth educators and doulas are friends with other birth professionals in the community. They may be able to refer you to someone who can help. If no one knows an IBCLC, make sure that the person you do consult with has extensive experience with breastfeeding. You may also be able to find a childbirth educator or doula through your local hospital. If not there, check with a pregnany crisis center.

Contact the International Lactation Consultant Association. They will be able to direct you to an IBCLC.
