Tie a Windsor Knot
Tie a Windsor Knot

A Windsor Knot, or Full Windsor, is a wide triangular knot produced when tying a necktie. Erroneously named after the Duke of Windsor, this knot is quite common, and is usually worn for formal occasions. Follow these easy steps to tie a Windsor knot.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin with the tie draped around your neck, with the wide end extending about 12 inches below the narrow end.

  2. Step 2

Cross the wide end of the tie over the narrow end. Bring the wide end up through the loop and take it back down.

  3. Step 3

Pull the wide end under the narrow end to the left, then through the loop once again.

  4. Step 4

Bring the wide end across the front, moving from left to right.

  5. Step 5

Pull the wide end up, bringing it up through the loop again.

  6. Step 6

Bring the wide end back down through the knot in front.

  7. Step 7

Tighten the knot and draw it up to your collar, using both hands.
