Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

First, write out a draft. Your draft doesn't have to be perfect and can contain spelling errors! ITS JUST A DRAFT so don't sweat it!

Start out by using this simple format:

    YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION;

    Name
    Address
    Phone Number
    Email Address

    DATE:

    EMPLOYER INFORMATION:

    Name
    Address
    Phone Number

    SALUTATION:
For example, Dear Mr. Legg or Attention Human Resource Department,

  2. Step 2

Next, draft the body of your resignation letter.

This is where you will state your reason for leaving the company and the date you plan to leave.

For example: As of June 01, 2009 I am officially turning in a two week notice and resigning from the position of Operations Manager. I have enjoyed working for the (state the company name) team but have decided to take another position at (state the company name).

Please note: It is best to keep this simple and brief! Do not go overboard with your reasons and ALWAYS ask for a good reference!

For example: I would appreciate a good reference and a referral letter from you.

  3. Step 3

Begin to wrap your letter up with a nice conclusion.

For example: I hope we will remain great friends and business associates! If you need any assistance in the future please do not hesitate to give me a call!

  4. Step 4

Finally, end your resignation letter with a proper closing.

    For example: Sincerely yours,

  5. Step 5

Read your resignation letter and proof your spelling and other errors. Write your final draft, sign and deliver!
