Heritage pumpkin pie is a delicious, old-fashioned, pumpkin pie recipe that will be sure to please your family and guests this holiday season.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • an unbaked pie shell
  • 1 1/2 cups canned or cooked pumpkin
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 3 slightly beaten eggs
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • whipped cream to top pie when served
  1. Step 1

    If using a frozen, already prepared, pie shell, thaw and have ready. Or, if you prefer make your own pie shell.

    Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.

  2. Step 2

    In a large mixing bowl, mix the pumpkin with the brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and molasses.

  3. Step 3

    Add the three slightly beaten eggs, and the 1 cup evaporated milk, and mix thoroughly.

    Pour into unbaked, unpricked pie shell.

    Bake in hot oven (425 degrees) for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center of the pie comes out clean.

    Serve pie with a topping of whipped cream, or serve plain if you prefer.
