A press release is what the media uses to write thier stories for the news. Press Releases are sent from organizations who want thier products/services to be the word of mouth for the day. Here is the best way to write one.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Organize your basic thoughts on a sheet of paper. List the who, what, when, where and how of the story.

  2. Step 2

Create a headline for your press release. Your headline should communicate the message of the press release in about 4-10 words. It should grab the readers attention immediately.

  3. Step 3

Write the first paragraph of the press release to inform the reader immediately the who, what, when, where and how. Your reader should be able to read the first paragraph only and still know the entire story.

  4. Step 4

Write the body of the press release. Tell the story or narrative of your story. In many cases 1-3 paragraphs is more than enough.

  5. Step 5

Close your press release with one last statement with any background information needed surrounding the story.

  6. Step 6

Give the name and contact information for the person who will be available to answer any questions regarding your press release.

Tips & Warnings
  • Get straight to the point.
  • Don't include any unnecessary information
  • Send your press release both before and after if you it is to announce an event
