Step 1
Think low cost or no cost. Try to think of things you can do without a lot of investment. For example hiring a baby sitter and gas to drive to a second job can be costly, if the job cuts you hours without notice. Consider your options and all angles of cost before starting. To get thinking about different ways, the next few ideas are ways to earn a little extra cash without much investment.
-
Step 2
Sell electronic items that are no longer in use. If this does not get the money you need this may offset other costs to make a second income or a little more side money. If you want to try auction sites, places like eBay are great. However, if auction sites are not something you want to consider try places such as gazelle.com and BuyMyTronics.com that buy used electronics outright.
-
Step 3
Try your hand at ways to make money online. Due to high gas prices many people have found legitimate ways to earn a little extra money and some even a full income online. The best thing about working online is that the work can be done around any schedules. For information on how to make money online moonlighting look for link under resources at the end of this article.
-
Step 4
Talk to your employer about working more hours. While the hours may not be in your original job position this will help the second job from interfering with the first. If your job does not offer any other hours look into working other flexible jobs that are in need in a poor economy. Jobs such as at home care giver for the elderly or disabled can be flexible and will always have a need in the community.
-
Step 5
As Benjamin Franklin said "A penny saved is a penny earned." If the job market is to tight in your area to find a second job, consider making your second job saving money for your family. For example, instead of buying prepared food, spend your time making the food from scratch. Do this as a family event and have fun making new memories. This will also help teach children to budget, which is very important in today's economy.

on 1/23/2009 Good tips. Too bad in my state you have to have a commercial kitchen to make food items. I would check to see if there were any laws governing food prep in your area. This web page may be helpful:
