Recycling your scraps and left over sewing materials is all you need to create some tossed pillows.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • scissors
  • scrap material
  • sewing machine or hand needle and thread
  • pre-made square pillow form , or polyester fiber fill or an old toss pillow
  • measuring tape
  1. Step 1

Cut enough 4 inch or 6 inch squares to cover one side of pillow form.
Stitch a series of 4-6 squares together attaching one end only, looks like a long strip of cloth now.

  2. Step 2

Measure about how many "long strips of cloth" squares it will take to cover one side. Now stitch additional strips horizonally to the other one until there are enough to make one solid piece to cover the pillow for one side. Leave an additional square at the end of each section so it will cover the two other ends of the pillow form.

  3. Step 3

Now do the same steps above and make another solid piece from the attached squares to cover the back. Turn to wrong side and stitch three sides of the squares to form a pillow casing. Turn to the right side and put pillow, form or fiber fill inside and close by turning the last end 1/4 inch inside and topstitch close leaving no raw seam showing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Works great to refurbish that pillow that just looks worn out or as a gift. Try using school or college team colors for older kids.
  • If using an old pillow to cover be sure it is washed first and dry in a hot dryer or sunshine to kill all germs.
