Hot water cornbread is probably the easiest and most traditional southern cornbread to make if you know how. Not many people know how or have even tasted this wonderful side. Join the dying breed of cornbread makers by following these steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Cup White Cornmeal
  • Tblsp Sugar
  • Tsp Salt
  • Tblsp Oil
  • 1 Cup Water
  1. Step 1

Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl.

  2. Step 2

Pour the water in your frying pan and bring to a rapid boil. Your water MUST BE HOT.

  3. Step 3

Pour boiling water in the mixing bowl with dry ingredients and stir.

  4. Step 4

Heat oil in frying pan then pour in mixture. Stir well. Add just enough oil to the frying pan to cover the bottom.

  5. Step 5

Mixture should have a lumpy, paste like consistency. Form pancake like shapes by spooning out your mixture and place in hot frying pan. When cake is golden brown on the bottom, flip over and repeat browning. ONLY COOK ON EACH SIDE ONCE.

  6. Step 6

Remove from heat and serve with your favorite southern cooked vegetables.
