Prove Your House is Haunted

The Afterlife intrigues us all. We want to know whether or not our souls live on when we die. I want to share with you some tools you can utilize in order to prove that your home (or place of business) is haunted.

For each of the "Things You'll Need" items, I will provide a link to purchase those items at the end of the step. I am in no way affiliated with any company selling these items whatsoever.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Notebook and pen
  • Extra batteries for each item not using an outlet plug.
  • Flashlight
  • Tape (audio) recorders
  • Video cameras, preferably with night vision and/or infrared cameras.
  • Extra tapes for video and audio recorders.
  • Thermometer
  • Electo-magnetic field meters.
  • K-II EMF Meter.
  1. Step 1

Set up your video camera(s) in the most active places of your home or business. At night, once the lights are out, begin recording in night vision mode. This is your best tool, and the most sought after evidence.

You should purchase quite a few tapes to avoid recording over anything and be sure to date them accordingly.

  2. Step 2

Use digital voice recorders to capture voices and sounds you may miss during the night while sleeping (or out of the office). EVPs, or Electronic Voice Phenomenon, are the most popular and most caught evidence during investigations of hauntings. There are several that have over 140 hours of recording capability. Put these in the center of the room, or carry with you during your own investigations. You can also speak "notes" into the recorder, such as, "I just saw a dark shadow coming from the bathroom, be sure to view the video at 2:22 am."

You should also stop to ask questions such as, "What is your name?" and "Why are you here?". Be sure to give time for an answer, about 20 seconds. Tell them they have to shout into the device for you to hear them. Be sure to thank them where you're done asking questions. This could pave the road for future sessions.

Digital voice recorders can be purchased at any office supply store. They start at about $40.00.

  3. Step 3

When you're investigating, grab your digital thermometer and digital camera. Shoot plenty of pictures, about 50 or so, especially towards colder areas. It is often said that when ghosts want to manifest themselves, they will pull the energy from where they are, such as the heat from the air, resulting in "cold spots". When you see a dramatic drop in temperature without an open window or draft, be sure to snap photos in that direction. Be sure to record when and where you have temperature fluctuations so that you can leave your camera or digital voice recorder there during your next investigation.

Something to consider: Digital photos can be altered, so it is a good idea to use a 35mm camera as well. It would be horrible to actually capture evidence, then have someone throw it out. Film negatives are solid proof.

  4. Step 4

In situations where you feel you are constantly being watched, so that you have to turn your head to see if someone's there, you may be experiencing the results of high Electro-Magnetic Fields. An EMF detector will help. You should get a "base reading" of each room in your home during the day and write them in your notebook prior to your investigation. This will weed out any high-emitting culprits. You will need a flashlight in order to see the readings of this meter in the dark.

You can purchase one here: http://theghosthunterstore.com/emfmeters.html#EMF-822A_EMF_Detector

Another tool is the K-II Meter, which also measures EMFs, but has allegedly been used to communicate with spirits. Unfortunately this meter is not produced too often, so backorders are always occurring.

Here is a link for one of these meters:

  5. Step 5

Some additional tools you can use are:

Infrared video camera sets. These come with a set of cameras that you can hook up to your computer. Here's a link for a 4-camera set at geeks.com:

Parabolic Microphones. You have to be careful with these, because they pick up every sound, including the crinkling of someone's clothing. You should use these only when you are alone in a room. Parabolic dishes can pick up sounds 300 feet away, including whispers, footsteps, and stomach growls. They can pick up sound through glass, and some can even hear through walls. Sometimes, they can be too much of a good thing, resulting in "false positives". In other words, people think they caught a ghost, but their neighbor was outside rolling his trash can from the curb. Still, they make a pretty good tool for outside use. If you live in a subdivision, this would be worthless because you could pick up a neighbor's conversation four houses away. (Unless you like that sort of thing... ;o)

Here's where you can get one:

  6. Step 6

Gather all of your evidence over a period of time, making careful notes of time, date, and weather conditions. Once you capture something on video, you should call in reinforcements. You can go to the TAPS website at http://www.the-atlantic-paranormal-society.com/ to file a report. They will refer your case to a close-by affiliate, or they will take it on themselves.

Remember, evidence is KEY. Gather as much as you can prior to, during, and after any investigations.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember, ghosts were people too.
  • It's better to investigate in teams of two or three. You'll want to use all the tools you have at your disposal, and you've only got two hands.
  • If you have long hair, keep it pinned or in a ponytail. Hair has a tendency to become an "anomaly" in photos.
  • During an investigation, try not to whisper. These can sometimes sound like EVPs. Talk in your normal voice.
  • Ghosts have been known to draw the energy from batteries. Be sure to have plenty on hand.
  • Avoid taking pictures of shiny objects such as mirrors, windows, framed pictures, etc.
  • Never dare, threaten or tease an unknown entity.

on 12/7/2008 Not usually brisgirl, however evil or demonic spirits can follow a living person. Many times investigators wear "rosary beads" to prevent this from happening. Also, deceased family members can sometimes follow their family members, protecting them. Another exception is that a ghost may be attached to a particular item that is brought into your home.

You need to have your home blessed as soon as possible. It appears an evil spirit may have come home with you.
