Step 1
Water the plant well one day before dividing the plant.

Step 2
Dig up the whole plant with as many of its roots as intact as possible using a garden fork.

Step 3
Pull the roots apart by hand, cut them with a knife.

Step 4
Divide the plant and each piece has a stem or growing point and a supply of roots.

Step 5
Plant the new divisions as soon as possible. Position the crowns as the same depth as the original depth.

Step 6
Continue to water and fertilize the plants.
