make red hair dye last longer.

Want to make that perfect new shade of red last? Follow these directions to get the most longevity out of your shade.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Wash your hair the day before you plan to color your hair. Wait at least 24 hours after shampooing before you color. Make sure you do not apply conditioner. Hair with excessive conditioner does not absorb the color as well.

  2. Step 2

After coloring make sure every time you shampoo you apply conditioner. Red hair color fades quicker than other shades, and you want to make sure your hair is well conditioned because dry hair loses color quicker. Try to avoid daily shampooing, it is best to shampoo about three times a week when trying to maintain color. Dry shampoos can absorb oil if needed in between washings.

  3. Step 3

Avoid heat styling and blow drying as much as possible. If you must heat style try to use a styling product designed to protect hair from heat styling.

Tips & Warnings
  • Permed or processed hair is extremely porous. Red shades do not usually last more than a couple of weeks when your hair is in this condition even with the best of care. It is best to try a red shade when your hair is not permed or processed.
