Step 1
Who has layaway? Find out which department and clothing stores offer the layaway option to customers. This can be found out easily through an on-line search or by contacting the store itself. Stores that have advertised this option are: K-mart, Marshalls, TJ Maxx and Burlington Coat Factory, to name a few. Other retailers may offer this option as the holidays draw near.
-
Step 2
Shop. The stores that offer layaway will have a counter/customer service station where you can take your items for layaway.
-
Step 3
Ask questions. Each store may be different in their layaway process. Important questions would be: How much of a minimum payment is required to start the layaway process? Does this service cost money, if so how much? How frequently are additional payments required on the layaway purchase...every week, two weeks? When must the balance be paid in full? Once the item is paid for in full, you're free to take the gift home.
