Is your cat or dog missing? A missing pet poster could save your pet’s life! Chances are, someone has seen your missing pet around the neighborhood. When you put up posters of your missing pet, people will be able to contact you with their information. Here’s what you need to know about making a missing pet poster.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    **Poster Paper**

If possible, use fluorescent poster board to make your missing pet poster. The bright color will attract more attention from people passing by, especially if they a distant away from your missing pet poster (like passengers in a vehicle). If poster board is not available, printer paper is acceptable.

  2. Step 2

    **Heading**

Use a thick marker for the heading of your missing pet poster. The marker color should contrast with the color of the poster board, so people can easily read the words. Write the heading in large letters on your missing pet poster. Putting a simple “LOST DOG” or “LOST CAT” is sufficient. If you are using a smaller sized paper, just putting “LOST” will do the job.

  3. Step 3

    **Pet Photo**

Your missing pet poster will be much more effective if you include a recent photo of your pet. Your missing pet in this photo should be big and in focus. If possible, use a color picture for the poster (especially if your missing pet is unique in color). If a photo of your pet is not available, be very detailed in the pet description portion of your missing pet poster.

  4. Step 4

    **Pet Description**

In your missing pet poster, include details that will help others identify your missing pet. Write your pet’s breed, fur color, size, age, eye color, and gender. Include unique details that will help others identify your pet, such as ear floppiness, tail length, different colored fur patches, and a walking limp.

When you write the description of your pet on the missing pet poster, leave out a detail. This way, when someone contacts you about your missing pet, you can quickly find out if it’s really your pet. Also, you may or may not want to include your pet’s name on the poster. There is the chance, however unlikely, that someone with intentions of mistreating your pet may use this information to gain your pet’s trust.

  5. Step 5

    **Contact Information**

At the very least, include a phone number where you can be reached at all times. You may also choose to put down a page number or even an email address. A cell phone is convenient, especially when you are out looking for your missing pet and don’t want to miss any possible leads.

You do not have to put your name on the missing pet poster, if you don’t want to out of concern for your safety. The same goes for your home address.

  6. Step 6

    **Offering a Reward**

You may want to include a reward for whoever finds your missing pet. This is certainly not a requirement for a missing pet poster, but offering a reward could serve as an incentive for people who see your poster to actively look for your pet.
