Don't let the current financial tension squash your holiday giving spirit! Follow these tips and save tons of cash on your holiday shopping this year!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • $10 Cash
  • Paper and Pencil
  • Willingness to Try New Things!
  1. Step 1

Set a firm holiday budget and stick to it! Allocate a reasonable dollar amount from you paycheck each week and keep it in a seperate shopping wallet. Only use cash! I recommend keeping at least $10 with you at all times. You never know when that perfect gift will pop up on the clearance rack!

  2. Step 2

Shop backwards! Shop for the smaller gifts on your list and challenge yourself to come in under budget. For example, if you have budgeted $20 for a certain someone on your list, challenge yourself to find a gift that retails for $20 for $10 or less.

  3. Step 3

Instead of individual gifts, give group gifts that the entire family, office or book club may enjoy! This will save you tons in the long run!

  4. Step 4

Always shop the clearance section of the discount department stores first. Find a high quality item and build a theme around that gift. Find two other complimenting items to tie in the theme. They can be gifts from your kitchen, craft bin, re-gift closet or Dollar Store.

  5. Step 5

Tips & Warnings
  • Establish an annual gift budget at the beginning of the year and buy year round...from the clearance sections of course!
  • Set up a seperate checking account with exclusive debit card for your gift purchases to keep you on track and on budget.
  • When in doubt, give the gift of food. Find great gourmet items from discount department store or Dollar Store.
  • Leave your credit cards at home to resist temptation!
