Christmas lights waste a lot of energy, solar lights will not only save energy but money in your pocket book. Solar Christmas lights costs only slightly more and will last as long or longer then regular electric lights. Forgo myths that solar can not be used in the winter. Solar lights can work in some of the coldest conditions.

    Solar powered string lights can look just like regular lights but does not need a electrical outlet. They can be found at most major lawn and garden stores. After the season is over you may leave them up all year for additional outdoor lighting.

    Before purchasing a lighted statue for Christmas or any other season look at your solar powered options. Statues come with there own many power source so you can forgo any eclectic wiring. They are available in a variety of price ranges and sizes, find them in specialty lawn and garden websites and some large stores such as Lowe's and Home Depot. One of my favorite is Rudolf, when the sun goes down his nose lights up. Rudolf can be found at improvementscatalog.com.

    Solar powered Christmas wreaths can add a little holiday cheer to any space that gets a little sun. Pre-strung holiday wreaths can be expensive but one can be easily made with low cost kits and old wreaths. My favorite place to shop for solar power wreaths is solarsanta.com.

    Decorate solar lights in your yard with holiday covers. Covers can be found in several different Christmas themes and can be added in a mater of seconds. Cost usually run under $15 for a set of four. Covers can be found at amazon.com and target.com.

Tips & Warnings
  • To reduce costs add solar lighting decorations as you replace the old ones.
  • Hide solar paneling with garden and creative angling.
