Things You'll Need:
- Computer
- Autocad program or trial version of Autocad
- internet access
-
Step 1
AutoCAD is a CAD (Computer Aided Design) software application for 2D and 3D design and drafting, developed and sold by Autodesk, Inc. AutoCAD currently runs exclusively on Microsoft desktop operating systems.
-
Step 2
To learn Autocad you will need the program, any version will do to get started. If you don't have the program, you can get the trial version at http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=2704278 for 30 days.
-
Step 3
There are a lot of good places to get tutorials. There are some good video tutorials at www.vtc.com (http://www.vtc.com/products/Autodesk-AutoCAD-2008-Mastering-Basic-2D-Concepts.htm). There are also great video tutorials at www.lynda.com (http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modListing.asp?pid=361). Both sites require you to buy a subscription to watch all the videos, but they let you watch a number of video tutorials for free.
-
Step 4
After you go through the free video tutorials, another great free resource is http://www.cadtutor.net/tutorials/. Also try out http://www.we-r-here.com/cad/index.htm, they have a lot of informative tutorials going through the functions of the program.
-
Step 5
Good luck and be patient, there is always a learning curve with new programs but once you learn the basic functions and tools it can be a extremely powerful program.
