How to prevent Avent bottles from leaking

When I was going to have a baby, I was recommended a couple times to buy Avent bottles, that they were the best. But I discovered that for no reason at all, it seemed, they would leak. Since I had invested so much money in the bottles and nipples, I did want to just discard them and start over, so I went about trying to figure out a way to prevent them from leaking.

At first I thought it was a specific bottle, nipple or ring, but I realized it was not. So I went about finding a cure, and here it is, a foolproof way to keep Avent bottles from leaking. But don't ask me why it works; I only know it works.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Avent bottle, nipple, and ring

1. Make sure all three components, bottle, nipple, and ring, are dry.

2. 

   Find the notches on the nipple (see image).

3. 

   Find the notches (? Not sure what to call them) on the ring (see image).

4. 

   Line up two of the notches on the nipple with two of the notches on the ring and pull the nipple through the middle of the ring. It's a little hard to see in the picture, but it should help show how this is done.

5. Put the nipple/ring onto the bottle. Make sure the ring is tightened. If it is too loose, then it's possible it will leak, but don't worry about getting it tight enough. Just turn until it no longer moves.

6. If it does leak (because the ring was not tight enough), make sure to unscrew the nipple/ring, dry off both the ring on the bottle and inside of the nipple/ring before screwing back on. If there is any moisture in there, it's possible it will leak again.

on 10/17/2009 As a frustrated new mom, I tried this advice and it didn't work all the time. I finally contacted Avent directly and their advice worked:

1. Ensure that the nipple is wet

2. Place nipple in screw ring and pull through until a click is heard

3. Screw the screw ring firmly onto the bottle

Note: the screwing action causes the anti-colic sealing skirt to spread out
and create the seal against the inside of the bottle neck.
