Everyone who has a dog is faced with the fear of fleas and ticks. Fleas and ticks sometimes lead to bigger problems like worms. Here's a few simple suggestions and tips to take care of the problem and stop it before it gets worse.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • dog or puppy
  • flea/tick collar
  • flea/tick shampoo

    ~LOOK~

First check to see if your dog has fleas or ticks. They will look similar to the pictures shown. Your dog will also most likely be very itchy.

    ~WASH~

Then, invest in some flea shampoo. Wash your dog with it about once a week or as the directions state.

  3. Step 3
Frontline and Frontline Plus are great products (www.1800petmeds.com)

    ~MEDICATE~

A drop-on medication like Frontline is good to get. Then, follow the directions those have. This usually eradicated the problem and keeps it at bay.

  4. Step 4

    ~Collar~

A collar is another option if you don't have enough money for something like Frontline. (Vet care does get expensive.) You simply cut it to the size of your dogs neck, leaving ample room for growth. They usually stay on for about 3 months.

Tips & Warnings
  • Get the correct age group medication for your dog. A puppy's system can't take as much as an adult dog.
  • Dogs younger than 3 months or so really need to be advised by a vet when doing treatment.
  • Make sure when working with chemicals you wash your hands.
  • If your dog or you are pregnant, talk to a vet or doctor before commencing treatment.
