A neti pot is used to naturally cleanse the sinuses. By pouring warm water and saline into your nose, you can help clear out mucus and relieve sinusitis, allergies, rhinitis of pregnancy, and nasal congestion.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • neti pot (available at most drug stores)
  • warm water
  • saline solution (saline solution packets for neti pots can be purchased at your local drug store)
  1. Step 1

Add contents of the saline solution packet or a quarter teaspoon of non-iodized salt to your neti pot.

  2. Step 2

Fill neti pot with lukewarm water.

  3. Step 3

Stir until contents of saline solution packet or salt have completely dissolved.

  4. Step 4

Lean over the sink with your head bent down so you are looking directly into the basin.

  5. Step 5

Insert spout tip of pot into one nostril. You want to form a comfortable seal.

  6. Step 6

Rotate your head so that one nostril is directly above the other nostril. This allows the solution to flow by gravity. Make sure your forehead is higher than your chin.

  7. Step 7

Gently pour. In a few moments, the solution will begin to drain out of the opposite nostril.

  8. Step 8

    Gently blow your nose.

  9. Step 9

    Repeat on the other side.

Tips & Warnings
  • Breathe through your mouth. Do not inhale through your nose.
  • Always follow the manufacturer directions.
