This rice is wonderful with Salmon Steaks, Meat or Grilled Chicken.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cups Egyptian Rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups Dice Red Onions
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  1. Step 1

Put rice in saucepan with water, cumin, chili powder and salt. Set aside.

  2. Step 2

Sauté onions in oil until they are golden brown over medium heat.

  3. Step 3

Add browned onions to rice and cook over medium heat for 20-30 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Once rice comes to a boil: cover and lower heat.

  5. Step 5

Check rice at 20 minutes. If you can smash a grain of rice and do not feel any hardness in the center, it's done. If not allow it to cook longer.

Add a Tablespoon of water if the rice seems dry and it is not done yet.

    Continue cooking until done.

  6. Step 6

Serve up with Salmon Steaks, Beef Steaks or Grilled Chicken and Grilled Vegetables.

  7. Step 7

Tips & Warnings
  • Cooking Egyptian Rice is different than American Rice. The right amount of water is key. Too much and you have a gooey mess, that nobody will eat.
  • Don't add too much water.
