New to officiating? New to using a whistle? A whistle is a tool of communication. When first using it, you might not get the desired sound. Using the whistle takes some time and practice. Different whistles do different things and make different sounds. This article will get you started.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

    Take whistle and put in mouth, about half an inch past the lips.

  2. Step 2

    Gently grasp end of whistle with teeth and enclose lips naturally over end of whistle.

  3. Step 3

    Put tip of tongue against opening at end of whistle. Then you are ready to whistle.

  4. Step 4

    Quickly release tongue from whistle and while doing this blow air through whistle forcefully. Then put tongue back against whistle when finished.

  5. Step 5

    To make 2-3 short quick whistles, repeat steps 3 and 4 fast.

  6. Step 6

    To make 1 long burst, go through steps 3 and 4 once and delay bringing tongue back and keep on blowing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Spending on what you want to communicate, whistle accordingly:
  • Listen to me: short burst.
  • You did something wrong: long hard burst. ( The worse it is, the longer and harder you blow.)
  • Helping decipher normal hear me from pay attention
  • Whistling can damage hearing.
  • Treat whistle as a tool.
