Single parenting doesn't have to be difficult. Here are some ways to make it easier.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Determination
  • Patience
  1. Step 1

Stop feeling guilty. For whatever reason you are a single parent, remember that you are not alone. There are many others out there that are also single parenting.

  2. Step 2

Take advantage of child care co ops or swap child care with friends whenever possible. If you have a friend that works opposite shifts than you perhaps you can work out a deal to swap child care. Both of you will gain funds by using this type of situation.

  3. Step 3

Try to stay organized. Keeping a routine or schedule and being organized can go a long ways to making your life easier. Maintain rules and raise your children in your standards rather than just giving in because you are too tired. Setting the standard now rather than expecting it when your children are older will make your life so much easier.

  4. Step 4

Learn to budget. Maintaining a budget and living at or below your means will help you to stay out of debt and give you peace of mind.

  5. Step 5

Don't neglect your needs. See the doctor for routine check ups. Maintain friendships and keep yourself fit.

  6. Step 6

Learn to garden and can or freeze produce to help with your food budget year long.

  7. Step 7

Give older children responsibility of chores and other tasks to lighten your load. Teaching children responsibility will help them to grow up to be responsible adults.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't be embarrassed to ask for help if you need it. Child care assistance is available in many states.
  • If you are not receiving child support and should be, call your local assistance office and get that going as soon as possible.
  • Consider sharing your home with another single mom.
