Things You'll Need:

  • A computer.
  • Something to sell.
  1. Step 1

    1. Try to keep it to one page. Put, News Release -- Immediate, and the date at the top.

  2. Step 2

    2. It should be newsworthy and not be a thinly disguised advertisement.
    Send your Press Release to all likely media

  3. Step 3

    3. Send it to a Named Person rather than "To the Editor" or "Features Editor.'

  4. Step 4

    4. Capture attention with a headline that's likely to interest readers of the publication.

  5. Step 5

    5. Don't phone after a day or two and say,"Did You Receive My Press Release?"

  6. Step 6

    6. Do not use advertising words like, "Amazing Value," "On Sale." "Highly Acclaimed," "Money-Back Guarantee." "Bargain Priced," "Limited Offer," "Limited Quantity." Etc.

  7. Step 7

    7. Do not mention the name of your company or the product more than once.

  8. Step 8

    8. Try to answer the kind of questions that an interested news reporter might ask..."Who, What, Why, Which, When, Where and How?"

  9. Step 9

    9. Write your news story in the Inverted Pyramid Style the media are used to seeing. Example: Put the most important points at the top and the not-do-important at the end.

  10. Step 10

    10. Put your contact information at the bottom and end with ###
