Having an online business can be as simple as, promoting an affiliate link, or it can be very complicated as building a website. No matter what you use to make money online pay per click advertising will make a big impact.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A affiliate link, website, blog, or mlm program to promote.
  1. Step 1

Research keywords. The most important aspect of your campaign is to research and use the most effective keywords. Wordtracker.com has a free keyword research tool you can use. You will want to use the more obvious short keywords that will get clicks often. Then it's a good idea to find long tail keywords that have are getting fewer bids. These will recieve clicks less often, but will be cheaper per click.

  2. Step 2

Set up your pay per click campaigns. Set up the your ads trying a variety of eye catching topics. Be short and to the point. Remember that you will be paying everytime someone clicks on your ad, so make your ad as detailed as possible to avoid someone clicking when they may have been looking for something else.

  3. Step 3

Set up your max price per click, you can set this a little high with google, yahoo, and live. This works similiar to ebay, they will bid on your behalf up to your max price.

You will need to check with less known marketing companies such as miva as they may do this differently.

  4. Step 4

Review your reports after a couple of hours, and adust your individual keyword/keyphrase as needed. Adjust your max price up or down to achieve your desired position. There is no need to try to be first in the results, just set your goal to be on the first page. I normally try to be between 6 and 8

For the short keywords if they are not showing any impressions, or a low amount of impressions raise the bid as the bid is to low. For longer less popular keywords or keyphrases you will need to allow a few days or weeks to adjust.

Tips & Warnings
  • Longer keywords are less frequent, but provide the most profit. They are more targeted to what you have to offer, therefore users are more likely to purchase. Ex. if you were promoting a link for jewelry, you could try keyphrases with terms such as gold, ring, diamond ect. many affiliates will let you send your users direct to certain pages.
  • If you operate a website, or blog losing money on the higher priced search terms is not always a loss, as someone now knows about your site that may come back!
  • If you are promoting affiliate links, consider creating a simple webpage or website where you can promote alike products. This allows you to promote more products spending less money.
  • You can create a website that is simple to set up with oneandone internet for $3.99 per month. This will get you a unique site with the .com of your choice. They will walk you through the entire process, and help you create a unique website.
  • The more you do this, the more you will come up with creative methods to spend less, and make more money.
  • Keyword research allows you to forecast number of clicks and the cost. If you are promoting affiliate, most companies will provide epc (estimated earnings per 100 clicks) if not email them and ask for it. This will allow you to make a good plan, with estimated profit.
  • Don't get afraid if you spend more money than you make in the begging. This is normal. It takes a little bit of trail and error before you profit. Google will allow you credit to make the money before its neccessary to pay.
  • Monitor your search marketing campaigns consistently to make certain you are not going over your budget.
