Menstrual cramps can be extremely painful even with the modern medical treatment today. There are holistic treatments that use essential oils which help to relieve menstrual cramps. These home remedies are a wonderful alternative to medication for women who want relief but do not want to feel drugged.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rosemary Essential Oil
  • Lavender Essential Oil
  • Sweet Almond Essential Oil
  • Flannel Cloths
  • Old Towel
  • Kitchen trash bags
  • Zip lock bags
  • Small glass bottle
  1. Step 1
    Essential oils

    Essential oils

Mix two ounces of sweet almond oil with 15 drops of rosemary essential oil and 15 drops of lavender essential oil. Stir or shake until well mixed.

  2. Step 2

Heat water to boiling. Place boiling water in a thick cup or glass. Put the container with the oil mixture in the container of boiling water to heat it up.

  3. Step 3

Once oils are warmed, pour them over the flannel cloths and then lie down on a bed or in a recliner. Place the warm oiled cloths over the lower abdomen covering the area of the uterus and ovaries. Place a kitchen garbage bag over the flannel cloths to keep the heat in and to keep oil off your clothing or other surfaces. Leave this on for 30 minutes. This may be repeated up to four times daily if needed.
This home remedy for menstrual cramps usually will ease the pain from cramps within 20-30 minutes of starting the treatment. It is advised to lie quietly in bed after the treatment.

Tips & Warnings
  • Once the cloths are used, they can be placed in a zip lock bag and when they need to be reused taken out and placed in the microwave and heated up.
  • An alternative method to heating the oil in the hot water is pouring it over the cloths and heating in the microwave first.
  • Handle hot oils with care. Do not over heat oils. They should feel warm to the touch not extremely hot.
  • Home remedies for menstrual cramps should not be substituted for medical treatment if cramps persist for more than 3-4 days. Seek medical treatment or a consultation if menstrual cramps become extremely severe or persist longer than this period of time.
