Instructions

    • 1

Choose the crayon colors you want for your project. Grate them with a cheese grater until you have a pile of finely grated colored wax.

    • 2

Lay a piece of wax paper on a thin towel. Sprinkle the grated crayon evenly over the paper. Lay another piece of wax paper over the top. Lay another thin towel (or the other half of the towel underneath) on top.

    • 3

Put your iron on medium (no steam) setting. Press down with the iron on the towel until the wax underneath is melted between the wax paper layers.

    • 4

When cool, cut shapes corresponding to the season out of the wax paper. You can make "frames" out of construction paper, but be sure to keep both sides of the wax paper uncovered so the light can come through it. Attach a ribbon to the finished product.

    • 5

Display the project in a window or hanging from a chandelier. These "stained glass" projects look their best when light is coming through them.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to supervise your child closely on this project. It's recommended that only adults handle an iron.
