How to Create Multi Level Picture Bullet Lists in Microsoft Word 2003

Many times, a document calls for a bulleted list to outline specific details of the text or to reinforce or summarize points. Rather than just being limited to the standard, rounded bullet points found in most documents, users of Word are actually able to create their own customized bullet lists. They can use pre-created bullet pictures which come packaged with the software, or they can even import their own bullet pictures from their computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the bullets and numbering options menu. Click on “Format” and then select “Bullets and Numbering.” Once inside this menu, click on the “Outline Numbered” tab.

    • 2

Choose a list to customize. Click on a bullet list and then click on “Customize.”

    • 3

Select the level. In the “Level” box, select the number one as the first level.

    • 4

Pick a picture for the level. Inside of the “Number Style” box, you can click on the pictures inside to choose that picture for the bullet. Or you can click on “New Picture” and browse to and select a new picture for that bullet point.

    • 5

Create the next level. In the “Level” box, select the number two. Then, click on the “Number Style” box and choose or browse to the desired picture.

    • 6

Repeat to create the desired levels. Follow the above steps to create as many bullet picture levels as you wish. Click “Okay” when finished to implement the changes.

Tips & Warnings

  • When importing your own pictures, make sure they are small or they may not format properly when used as bullet levels.
