In wood furniture, the fibers in the boards can bend, causing the appearance of dips or divots in the surface of the piece. Fixing this problem is fairly uncomplicated and doesn't require any special carpentry skills. If a portion of wood is bent, it can be fixed by using a hot iron to flatten out the surface.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Electric iron
  • Small bucket
  • Washcloth
  1. Step 1

Place the piece of furniture in a place where it is easy to work, such as the center of the room. Plug in the iron and set it to medium heat.

  2. Step 2

Fill the bucket with cool water. Dip the washcloth into the water, ringing it out as much as possible, and lay the damp cloth on top of the dent in the wood.

  3. Step 3

Place the iron on the cloth and leave it there until the cloth begins to dry, about 30 seconds to a minute. Remove the iron, pull up the washcloth and check the surface of the wood.

  4. Step 4

Repeat the procedure, re-wetting the cloth each time, until the board is smooth and straight.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never try this method on a section of wood where the fibers are broken or cut. The fibers must be in one piece for this process to work.
