Instructions

    • 1

Prepare and bake the cake mix as per instructions on the boxes. Pour batter into both the round and rectangular cake pans, distributing the batter evenly in each. Bake until done. Test by inserting a toothpick in and out of the cake. If the toothpick is dry the cake is done. Remove from oven and place on a cooling rack. Continue cooling by placing each cake on a plate and then into the refrigerator or freezer until completely firm.

    • 2

Remove both cakes from the refrigerator. Cut the round cake evenly in half. Face the cut sides towards each end of the rectangular cake, giving it the shape of a skateboard. This will become the underside of a skateboard.

    • 3
attach a donut on each end

Prepare the wheels (to attach to the underside) by cutting in half any color licorice stick of choice. This becomes the rod that each wheel (donut) attaches to.

    • 4

Completely and heavily dip each end of the licorice into moist frosting or icing, until it is completely covered. Quickly push each end of the licorice into a donut hole and place on a plate until frosting hardens and the wheels on each side are set in place. Do this for each set of wheels in front and in the back of the skateboard. (See photo in intro for wheel placement.)

    • 5

Use a spatula to completely frost the entire skateboard cake, top and underside. Allow frosting to set on a plate until firm. Decorate by adding whipped cream, sparkles, small jelly beans or shaved chocolate. Use a lollipop stick to create pictures, shapes or write a message.

    • 6

Add the wheels onto the skateboard, placing one set of wheels on each end; press firmly into the icing. Allow to set overnight.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure the wheels are securely set to the licorice before attaching to the skateboard.

  • Decorate to look like the top instead of the underside of the skateboard if preferred.

  • For a thicker cake, buy deeper pans, or bake each twice.

  • Never attempt to cut or decorate the cake until it is completely cold or it will fall apart.

  • Bake the cake one day, and decorate the next or place into the refrigerator or freezer to get it cold faster.
