How to Get a Rocket Start in "Mario Kart Wii"
Throughout the Mario Kart franchise, certain game features have been carried over from one title to the next, while others have been phased out. One of the most fondly regarded features of this franchise is the rocket start–a speed boost available right at the beginning of each race, contingent on a racer’s ability to hit the accelerator at just the right moment. The rules for the rocket start in Mario Kart Wii are different from the rules in previous versions of the game.

Tips & Warnings
It takes practice and close attention to learn where the “sweet spot” is in the starting grid countdown. The closer you are to this spot when you hit the accelerator button, the bigger your initial speed boost will be.
In previous versions of the game, you had to hit the accelerator button exactly when the third light came on. This change has confused many followers of the franchise.
If you miss the mark by too much, your kart or bike will stall at the beginning instead of giving you a speed boost. Time your move carefully.
