How to Make a Gum Package Santa

This gum package Santa is an easy and inexpensive favor for your child's class Christmas party. For last minute ideas, this project can easily be created quickly and in multiples. Trace and cut out the felt pieces while enjoying a relaxing evening in front of the television. Prepare the pieces ahead of time for a craft idea for a class or kid club. Organize the supplies for each child, and allow them to glue and craft their own gum package Santa.

Things You'll Need

• Five-stick Big Red gum package
• White felt
• (2) 1/8-inch wiggly eyes
• 1/8-inch pink pom pom
• 1-inch white pom pom
• Lightweight cardboard
• Quarter
• Penny
• Nickel
• Ruler
• New pencil
• Disappearing ink pen
• Scissors
• Craft glue
• Toothpick

Instructions

1. Measure and cut a strip of the white felt 1/4 inch wide by 3 inches long for the Santa hat fur.

2. Glue the Santa hat fur strip around the five-stick gum package, using the craft glue, a 1/4 inch below the top. Allow the glue to dry.

3. Place the penny, quarter and nickel side by side on the lightweight cardboard, consecutively. Overlap the coins slightly. Trace around the shape of the coins, creating one long beard pattern. Cut the Santa beard pattern out.

4. Place the Santa beard pattern on the white felt. Trace around the shape using the disappearing ink pen. Cut the felt Santa beard out.

5. Space and glue the felt Santa beard, with the penny shape at the top, a 1/2 inch below the Santa hat fur. Allow the craft glue to dry.

6. Stand the new pencil on it's eraser end, on top of the white felt. Trace around the eraser end using the disappearing ink pen. Overlap the circle again with the eraser end of the pencil. Trace again, forming a figure eight or snowman shape. Cut the shape out. Trim a mustache from one long side of the shape. Glue the mustache over the top of the Santa beard using the craft glue. Allow the glue to dry.

7. Dab a dot of craft glue, using the toothpick, above the center of the mustache. Place the pink pom pom on the dot of glue.

8. Dab two dots of craft glue, using the toothpick, above the pink pom pom nose. Place the wiggly eyes on the dots of glue. Allow the glue to dry.

9. Stand the five-stick gum package on end. Glue the white pom pom to the top of the gum package Santa. Allow the glue to dry.

Tips & Warnings

• Disappearing ink pens are all different. Read the directions for your pen. The ink may be designed to fade over time, or you made need to dampen the marks. Most will become permanent if ironed.
