The elusive Nintendo Wii
The elusive Nintendo Wii

The Nintendo Wii's popularity has made it especially challenging to find some games and accessories in stores. Luckily, the Internet has the tools you need to make shopping a bit easier.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

    Finding the Console

  1. Step 1

Go to the Wii section of Amazon.com (see Resources). Amazon provides a cheap, fair and honest resource for a variety of items. They also include limits on the purchase of Wii consoles, making it more likely some to be in stock.

  2. Step 2

Click the link that says "used & new" if there are no Wii's available directly through Amazon. This will take you to a list of independent sellers who have the console. While you are sure to find what you need, the prices may be a little higher than average.

  3. Step 3

Head to a Nintendo Wii tracking website if Amazon's prices are too high (see Resources).

  4. Step 4

Look through the list of websites on the tracker and find one that says "In Stock." The list of these websites is continuously updated with information regarding the console's availability.

  5. Step 5

Click the links to the website and make your purchase. You may want to compare several sites for price comparisons before making your final choice.

  6. Accessories and Games

  7. Step 1

Head to Amazon.com's Wii page (see the Resources). Almost any accessory or game that you need will be available here.

  8. Step 2

Choose the game, hardware and accessories you are interested in purchasing on the left side.

  9. Step 3

Click "Add to Shopping Cart" and follow the onscreen instructions after finding the item you want. This page shows details about the game and customer reviews. These tools can be invaluable when deciding between games.

  10. Buying Wii Points

  11. Step 1

Know that Wii Points can be used to purchase old Nintendo games and other features for your system. They are redeemed online by going to the "Wii Shop" channel on your console. Wii points can also be purchased instantly in the same place. Turn on your Wii and open the Wii Shop channel.

  12. Step 2

Click the buttons reading "Start Shopping," "Add Wii Points" and then "Buy Wii Points with a Credit Card."

  13. Step 3

Be aware that this screen allows you to choose the amount of points you want to purchase. Old games cost anywhere from 3,000 to 10,000 points. You can search the Wii Shop channel for games you want to find their price. Choose the amount of points you want and input your credit card information (it must be Visa or Mastercard).

  14. Step 4

Know that the Wii Points will be added to your account instantly. Now you can use your Wii to shop for classic games online.

Tips & Warnings
  • Amazon allows free shipping with purchases of $25 or more on some times. Sometimes with a purchase of $20 to $24.99 you can actually save money by buying more.
  • Remember to make sure online vendors are reputable before giving out your credit card number. Online auction sites usually have an area to read reviews about their sellers--don't make a purchase without checking these.
