Instructions

    • 1

Wear a pair of jeans. Choose jeans that are flared or bell bottoms. To enhance your hippie costume, choose jeans that have fringe at the bottom. If you are a woman, wear hip hugging, bell bottom jeans. Sew or iron a few patches (peace sign or flower) onto the legs of your jeans. Wear a wide leather belt.

    • 2

Wear a tie dye shirt or peasant shirt and vest. Wear a tie dye shirt that has any variety of colors – the brighter, the better. Or you can wear a peasant shirt that is white or creme colored and long-sleeved. Over the shirt, wear a brown vest with fringe at the bottom. If you can’t find a brown vest, any colored vest will work.

    • 3

Wear a long-haired wig and headband. Tie a headband around the top of your head. If you are a woman, wear a wreath made of flowers or a headband with a flower in your hair.

    • 4

Choose your footwear. You can either wear no shoes at all or wear some type of footwear to protect your feet. Wear flip flops or any other kind of sandal with your costume. If it is super cold outside, wear a closed-toed shoe that you feel comfortable walking in.

    • 5

Add accessories to your costume. Carry a hemp purse or wear granny sunglasses. If you are a man, wear a mustache (fake or real). Wear a necklace with a peace sign or a gender sign pendant. If you don’t have a necklace with a pendant, wear a long, beaded necklace.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don’t have some of the pieces of the costume at home, check out your local thrift store or garage sales.

  • You can find necklaces with pendants or hippie headbands online or at your local costume shop.

  • If you wear no shoes at all, be careful. If it is dark outside, you may not see broken glass or rocks on the ground. Play it safe and wear some type of sandal with your costume.
