In true manga, the eyes are the total focus of the face. The nose is drawn as a simple mark or shadow, the simplest form that it can be, so that it does not outshine the eyes. There are three basic forms of nose that are used in manga.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pencil or pen
  • Paper
  1. Step 1
    Nose from straight on view

Draw a shaded triangle. The straight on nose is usually nothing more than a shadow. Decide where the light source is coming from and draw a black triangle on the half of the face that would be in shadow. In the example, the light is coming from the left side so the shadow is on the right side of the face.

  2. Step 2
    Nose in profile

Draw a "J" shape. Noses in profile are a little more detailed, but still very simple. For the most part, they are curved "J" shapes placed over the lips, as shown in the example.

  3. Step 3
    Young nose
    Young nose

Draw the hump in the "J" upward and a little more sharply for a younger looking nose, as shown in the example.

  4. Step 4

Draw a little triangular shadow to indicate a nostril, if the expression calls for it. An expression that shows distaste is an example of an expression that may call for a nostril in manga.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember to keep the nose as simple as possible.
