Create a Gift Basket for a Teacher

Is there a special teacher in your child's life that you would like to show appreciation to? Maybe you want to get your child's teacher a special gift to celebrate the end of the year, or even to surprise her on her birthday. Teachers work hard and appreciate even a note of thanks, but why not go one step further and create something that will truly dazzle her, such as a gift basket? This article will help you put together a gift basket your child's teacher will love.

From Quick Guide: Giftbaskets Tutorial
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Basket or plastic bin
  • Ribbons
  • Tissue paper
  • Stickers, stamps and other useful items
  • Picture or chapter book(s)
  • Gift card(s)
  • Personal notes

How to Create a Gift Basket for a Teacher

  1. Step 1

Purchase a large basket. You can find inexpensive baskets at thrift and dollar stores. You could use something the teacher could use in her classroom, such as a large plastic bin.

  2. Step 2

Start with some practical items. Teachers love to use stickers, glittery markers and other fun items. These things cost money, however, and a teacher's budget often doesn't lend itself to fun extras. Throw in a few sets of holiday stickers, markers and a packet of blank note cards.

  3. Step 3

Every teacher will tell you that she can always use more books for her classroom library. Choose holiday-themed picture books or even a few chapter books from a grade-appropriate series, such as the Magic Tree House for second-graders. Avoid books that tell a teacher how to teach or something similar.

  4. Step 4

Throw in something personal. If your child's teacher loves coffee, include a Starbucks gift card. If she loves to garden, add a small potted plant. Gift cards to teacher supply stores or office supply stores are also always appreciated.

  5. Step 5

Make it look nice. Finish off your basket with some tissue paper and pretty ribbon, and include a note of appreciation from you and your child. The teacher will surely appreciate your efforts.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ask other parents to contribute to your basket to create something truly lavish!
  • If you choose to put food in the basket, make sure you don't include anything the teacher might be allergic to!
  • Avoid things like coffee mugs and jewelry with apples or buses on them...teachers usually have more than enough of those items!
