Things You'll Need:
- Computer
- Local newspapers
- Local classified magazines
- Car
-
Step 1
Make signs and place them on public bulletin boards, telephone polls or near the entrances of local businesses. Place on the sign exactly what you are looking for in a used car, and the price you are willing to pay. Leave attached papers or cheap business cards near or on the sign with a junk e-mail address that people can contact if they have something that would suit your needs.
-
Step 2
Search Craigslist.org each day for additions to their vehicles for sale section. Often you can get a much better bargain from an owner of a car than you can from a dealership. Since the ads on Craigslist are free, you can also post your car needs in the wanted section.
-
Step 3
If you go to a dealer with a set amount of cash that you can spend, they will often knock a substantial amount off of the purchase price to sell the car on the spot.
-
Step 4
Look on eBay for used cars in your area. Many of the vehicles are auctioned, and some may not even have a reserve amount, enabling you to get a car for thousands less than it is worth.
-
Step 5
Browse local classified advertising magazines or newspapers, and look for good deals on cars.
-
Step 6
Watch for local auctions that contain cars for sale and that are open to the public, or make friends with someone who has the right to bid on cars at a vehicle auctions. Cars sold at auctions usually sell for much less than anywhere else, but they do not come with a warranty, and there is usually no history of the car available.
-
Step 7
Spread the word that you are looking for a good deal on a car. Send an e-mail to friends and family, or tell your coworkers that you are in the market for a used car within your price range. You never know when someone might be on the verge of selling a car, and you could be the first to know.
