If your heart rate exceeds 100 beats per minute, it may indicate that you have a condition known as tachycardia. A normal heart rate is considered to be 60 to 100 beats per minute at rest, and a rapid heartbeat may mean that blood is not being sufficiently pumped throughout the body. Symptoms of tachycardia include an irregular heartbeat, a fluttering heart, pain in the chest, shortness of breath and feeling dizzy. Most cases are mild or only periodic, while others may be much more serious. If you have been diagnosed with tachycardia, your doctor may suggest putting you on prescription medications to address the symptoms. In more life-threatening situations, heart surgery may be recommended. However, there are also more natural options to helping treat tachycardia.

Eliminate foods or over-the-counter medications that act as stimulants, such as caffeinated teas, coffee, chocolate, colas, diet aids, some cold medications and the like. These can all trigger episodes of tachycardia and need to be avoided.
Make sure that you are taking enough of the mineral potassium, as insufficient levels may contribute to a rapid heartbeat. You can increase potassium intake by eating foods, such as potatoes, bananas, avocados, whole grains and fresh vegetables, as well as drinking milk and orange juice. You can also get potassium in supplemental form or as part of a multi-vitamin. If you suffer from hyperkalemia, you should avoid potassium. If you tend to have an abnormally heavy menstrual period or are pregnant, you should not take motherwort. While it has not been known to have any adverse side effects, you should still consult your doctor before taking it, especially if you are breastfeeding or are on medications for heart disease or thyroid problems.
Consider using the herb arjuna. Arjuna, which comes from the bark of a tree grown in India, has been used as a heart tonic in Ayurvedic medicine for many centuries. It comes in tablet form, and dosage should be according to the directions of the individual product. It has no known side effects and is generally considered safe to use. If, however, you are pregnant, breastfeeding, being treated for a serious illness or are on prescription medications, you should speak to your doctor before taking arjuna, to make certain that it poses no risks.
Reduce the amount of stress in your life. Try doing deep breathing exercises or using relaxation techniques that can assist you in remaining calm and less anxious. Learn to slow down, instead of living life at such a frantic pace.
