Zebras are known for the black and white stripes all over their bodies. Children can make their own shrinky dink zebras after visiting them in the zoo. The zebra shrinky dinks will start out large, but will end up shrinking in the oven.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shrinky dink sheets
  • Cookie sheet
  • Pencil crayons
  1. Step 1

Purchase a set of shrinky dink sheets from the Shrink Dink Store (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Open the package and set out a sheet in front of you. Make sure the rough side is facing up.

  3. Step 3

Use a black pencil crayon to draw the outline of a zebra. You can use the picture above as a reference or a picture from a library book. Make the outline large so that it doesn't shrink so small you can't see it.

  4. Step 4

Color in your zebra pattern of black and white stripes.

  5. Step 5

Cut the zebra out with a pair of scissors. Leave a clear space around the edges of the zebra to make up for some of the shrinking.

  6. Step 6

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

  7. Step 7

Place your zebras on a cookie sheet. Don't let them touch each other. Bake the zebras in the oven for 1 minute. Use a stopwatch or a timer to be exact.

  8. Step 8

Cool the zebras off for 15 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cut a strip of magnet to fit the back of your shrinky dink. Stick it on the back and place it on your refrigerator as a decoration.
  • Use a hole puncher to punch a hole in the top of the shrinky dink zebra. Thread a piece of string through the hole and tie to form a necklace.
  • It only takes 2 seconds of extra cooking to burn a shrinky dink.
