Things You'll Need:
- Measuring tape--preferably metal for accuracy
- Pencil
- Stud finder
- Screwdriver
- Drill
- Carpenter's level
-
Step 1
Measure for width. You want to measure to the outer edge, usually outside the casing. Generally, you will want to double or even triple this measurement to allow for gathering with draperies.
-
Step 2
Measure for height. You will want the measurement to start where your bracket will be placed and end where you want your material to end. This depends on taste. If you want a rich, luxurious puddling on the floor of fabric add several inches to the measurement.
-
Step 3
Hold bracket in the desired position and mark with pencil on wall. Use carpenter level to mark other side.
-
Step 4
Use a stud finder to determine if a stud is located where you have marked. If not, then you will need toggle bolts for added support, which should be included with window treatment hardware purchased.
-
Step 5
Screw in brackets and don't forget center support bracket.
-
Step 6
Put curtains on rod and hang. Depending on the type of curtains or rod, and the style you want to achieve, you may or may not use curtain hooks or put directly on the rod.
