Things You'll Need:
- Internet access or phone book
-
Step 1
Know what you're exterminating. You might have a rat or mouse problem. Not all exterminators are in the business of animals; some only do insects. Some only do certain types of insects.
-
Step 2
Research common practices of extermination and habits of the pest. This way, you are knowledgeable about the processes and will know if the exterminator is.
-
Step 3
Create a short list of exterminators made from Internet searches of those in your area or local branches of national chains. Ask for pricing information. For the most part, each should be comparable. Also be sure they offer a guarantee and note that a set price for a set number of treatments is usually best, as opposed to pay-per-visit.
-
Step 4
Make sure the pest control operator has experience in treating the pest that you're having eliminated. Especially with insects like fleas and bed bugs, eliminating them can be tricky, so getting an operator who's done the treatment several times is best.
-
Step 5
Ask for referrals from friends. National exterminating companies are among the best, but also consider giving local operations a try. They might have a better price and better customer service.
-
Step 6
Conduct a phone interview with the pest control operator. That will give a sense of what the customer service and the technician is like first hand.
