How to Make a Shrinky Dink Chinchilla
Chinchillas are small creatures that kind of look like overgrown mice. They have been known to make great household pets. But if getting one for your own household isn't feasible, why not try making one out of Shrinky Dink paper? The chinchilla is created at a large scale, but ends up smaller when it shrivels in the heat of your oven.

1
Check with your town's craft stores to see if they carry Shrinky Dink sheets. If they don't, you can purchase some directly from the manufacturer. (Follow the link in Resources.)
-
2
Remove a Shrinky Dink sheet from the package and set it smooth-side down on your desk. You will be drawing on the rough side. You can make about five chinchillas on one Shrinky Dink sheet.

3
Use a black pencil crayon to draw the outlines of your chinchillas on the Shrinky Dink sheet. Make them a bigger than you want them to ultimately be, since they are going to shrink.
-
4
Color in the chinchillas. They come in many different shades. You can make each of your chinchillas unique, and even give them outfits to make them look like cartoon characters.
-
5
Cut out the chinchillas with a pair of scissors. Leave a clear space around the figures to allow for shrinking.
-
6
Set your oven to 325 degrees. It needs to be fully heated before you put in the Shrinky Dinks.
-
7
Place your chinchillas in a row on the baking sheet. Leave space between them so they don't melt together.
-
8
Put your cookie sheet in the oven and time it for exactly 1 minute.
-
9
After the minute has elapsed, take the chinchillas out of the oven and give them some time to cool off.

Tips & Warnings
Punch a hole near the top of your chinchilla. Thread a piece of string through the hole and tie it to form a necklace.
Cut a strip of magnet and stick it on the back of your chinchilla. Decorate your refrigerator with it.
Watch your Shrinky Dink in the oven at all times. It can burn in less than 2 seconds.
