How to Make Seaglass Jewelry

Sea glass, also known as beach glass, is "debris from glass containers that has been shattered and found its way to the beach," according to OceanSage.com. You can find sea glass while walking the shores of a beach or it can be purchased by sea glass dealers who collect it for resale. After tumbling in the sea for years, the glass becomes smooth and has a beautiful finish. Beach pottery is different from beach glass, its origination being from ceramics or building material; however, it can also be used to create gorgeous jewelry.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of jewelry wire that is four to eight times as long as your sea glass piece. For a smaller piece, cut the wire four to five times larger. For a larger piece, cut the jewelry wire eight times larger.

    • 2

Wrap the jewelry wire around the sea glass in a spiral to enclose the sea glass. Bend the starting point in a tight loop around the first spiral wrap to create a nice beginning.

    • 3

Slip the wire under the last spiral wrap to finish the setting. Slip the wire around the last spiral loop again but leave a loop about double the final size needed to thread your necklace through or your leather cord.

    • 4

Wrap the wire around the base of this loop two times, making the loop smaller and securing it tightly. Now tuck the wire back under the last wrap, cut the wire leaving a small tip to bend down over the last wrap to finish the sea glass pendant.

    • 5

Hang your sea glass jewelry on a necklace chain, leather cord, bracelet chain or anklet chain.

Tips & Warnings

  • Put a few drops of glue on the back of the sea glass pendant between the wire wraps and the sea glass to hold it in place. Let this dry completely. Hot glue will dry fast and peel off easy later if you want to change your sea glass jewelry setting.

  • Make sure to wrap your sea glass jewelry wire tight enough that the sea glass will not fall out.
