Elephants are the largest land mammal, and are known for their large trunks that they use like arms. Children can see elephants at a circus or in a zoo, then go home and make a shrinky dink elephant and decorate their rooms with it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shrinky dink sheets
  • Cookie sheet
  • Pencil crayons
  1. Step 1

Purchase a shrinky dink sheet package from the Shrinky Dink Store (see Resources below). The package will cost between $3 to $5.

  2. Step 2

Feel both sides of the shrinky dink paper. The rough side is the side you want to draw on.

  3. Step 3

Use a gray pencil crayon to draw the outline of an elephant. You can fit about three to four elephants on one shrinky dink sheet.

  4. Step 4

Use a gray pencil crayon to color the elephant in. To give the elephant some color, draw a blanket over its back. You could also color one of those elephant seats that are made to give children a ride at the circus.

  5. Step 5

Cut about 1/4 inch from the edge of the elephant outline. This gives the elephant room to shrink.

  6. Step 6

Put your elephants on a baking sheet. The sheet should have enough room to give the elephants some space in between. You don't want them to melt together.

  7. Step 7

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

  8. Step 8

Slide the cookie sheet in the oven and watch your timer for 1 minute exactly.

  9. Step 9

Remove the baking sheet and allow your elephants to cool off.

Tips & Warnings
  • Punch a hole in your elephant with a hole puncher. Then thread a piece of string through the hole and tie to form a necklace.
  • Cut a strip of magnet to stick on the back of your elephant. Decorate your refrigerator with it.
  • Watch your shrinky dink in the oven at all times. It can burn in less than 2 seconds.
